Florida Residents have until March 1st in which to file for a Homestead Exemption they must first qualify by demonstrating they became Florida Residents the preceeding year. This means if anyone is interested in filing for homestead for the 2004 tax year, they must first become a resident of Florida by December 31, 2003. This can be done by obtaining a Florida driver’s liscense, vehicle registration and voters registration. Failure to do so by this year’s end, will preclude all non-resident property owners from claiming a homestead exemption on their primary residence (you may have only one homestead) next year.
